Information on Cloncurry:

Cloncurry is situated in North West Queensland 125km’s east of Mt Isa and is the cross road for the major highways; Townsville to the border and Brisbane to the Gulf and has a permanent population of 3200 people. There are 2 schools in town, Cloncurry State School P-12 and St Joseph’s Catholic School P-9. It holds numerous sporting events and festivals throughout the year including 5 race meetings, the Merry Muster Rodeo and Beat the Heat Festival.

To boost local events, Cloncurry Shire Council is progressing a project that will see over 1,700 new grandstand seats made available at venues across the Shire. The council have also made a footpath from town out to Chinaman Creek Dam, made a recreational park at Chinaman Creek Dam for families to entertain and showcase our landscape and environment to tourists, built 9 new ‘country-style executive homes’ on Perkins Street to help improve livability options to promote economic development, and will be building a new 102 place Early Learning Centre during 2024 to ensure our thriving community is suitable for working families. Existing and planned major mines close to Cloncurry include: -

·         Ernest Henry mine is a copper/gold mine owned by Evolution Mining. The mine opened in 1996 and has recently identified resources to extend mine life beyond 2050.

·         Dugald River is 100% owned by the MMG Limited and is one of the world’s top 10 zinc operations.  MMG commenced production from the Dugald River in November 2017. Due to the scale of the ore body, Dugald River is estimated to have a mine life of 20+ years to process an average of 1.7 million tonnes of ore per annum.

·         Harmony acquired 100% of the Eva Copper Mine Project and 16 exploration tenements in December 2022, extending Harmony’s diversification into copper. The mine will start construction in 2024 and has an expected life of 15 yrs.
